Is Sabon good to the environment?
Being conscious about our environment is something everyone should have in mind. Here at Sabon we strive daily to decrease our use of non-replenishable resources. Our orders are all shipped out using biodegradable peanuts, recycled cardboard boxes, and invoices are printed on recycled paper. In our office and our stores, we make sure to reuse ribbons and tissue papers, paper scraps, and empty jars. All of our recyclables, like cardboard and glass, are picked up weekly by the City Of New York and any printed material used at our office is shredded and recycled once again. It is the small steps every day that add up. In addition to these efforts, we contribute to the “Friends of the Earth” organization which is dedicated to protecting our environment.

Are your products Kosher?
Although our products are not strictly kosher because they are not produced in a Kosher factory, they do not contain un-Kosher ingredients and are therefore; accepted by many religious customers. In Israel, Sabon has a certificate from the Rabbinical administration approving the products for use. We are currently waiting for the certificate to be sent to the US. It is up to the customer if such a certificate satisfies his/her requirements. In Israel there are some people who accept the certificate and some who don’t.

Do Sabon products have an expiration date?
Our products do have an expiration date and this date may be seen printed on the side of each product. Despite the expiration date, we recommend you store creams and oils in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight and heat in order to help preserve them better. Storing products in their original packaging is best. For more information on the expiration date of cosmetics, please visit The FDA's website.

How are your soaps made?
Our soaps are handmade in Israel using an old world Australian technique.

What is the best soap for dry skin?
Our Olive Oil & Coconut Oil based soaps are highly moisturizing. See all of them here. However, the Avocado Jojoba, Avocado Calendula, Shea Butter, and Mud soaps deliver even more moisture due to their rich ingredients.

What is the best soap for oily skin?
Our Glycerine & Palm Oil based soaps are best for oily skin, but are acceptable for all skins types. See all of them here. As well, our Shower Gel is an excellent liquid soap for oily skin.

What is the body butter and how do you store it?
Our Body Butter is a highly moisturizing bar of Shea butter, Cocoa butter, and Bees wax. Natural plant extracts are used to scent the product. Due to the natural ingredients, the product tends to melt slightly during warmer months, so it is helpful to store the product in a cool place. A sealed jar for traveling will hold the product best. At home, an open jar is suitable, just keep out of warm or “high traffic” areas where it may be prone to falling or becoming too soft.

What is the difference between the Body Butter and the Butter Cream?
Our Body Butter is our most moisturizing product. Based on Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter and Beeswax, this product may be used as a spot treatment to soothe severely chapped and dry skin. The Butter Cream, on the other hand, is intended for use over the entire body. This too is based on Shea Butter, but also contains skin moisturizing ingredients like Glycerin and Olive Oil.

What are the differences between the Body Gel Polisher and the Body Scrub?
Our Body Gel Polisher is a unique blend of liquid soap and micro-scrubbing beads (latex granules used in many cosmetics) that will cleanse and lightly exfoliate the skin, while our Body Scrub is a highly concentrated mixture of Dead Sea Salts and various nut oils that will offer intense exfoliation and moisture.

What is the best way to use the Body Scrub and how often can I use it?
The Body Scrub is best used without the aid of sponges or cloths, so use your hands to scrub your entire body with one to two scoopfuls, using our wooden scoop. It is best to avoid the facial area as the scrub is too abrasive for ones delicate skin. You may use the scrub up to three times per week. Excessive scrubbing may result in irritated or dry skin.

What are the differences between your scrubs?
We have four types of scrubs, all will achieve different levels of exfoliation, cleansing, and moisturizing. Our Creamy Scrub is the most mild of the four. Crushed apricot and olive seeds exfoliate your skin and deliver moisture for normal to oily skin. The newest to the scrub family, the Sugar Scrub, gently exfoliates the skin using delicately ground olive stones while adding extra moisture through aloe vera gel, almond oil, and mineral oils. The Foamy Scrub is the sister to our famous Body Scrub. It contains macadamia, almond and soy nut oils, Dead Sea salts, and has the power to cleanse with an added soap ingredient. The Body Scrub is purely macadamia, almond and soy nut oils, Dead Sea salts and fragrance. This scrub is sure reveal a newer, softer skin through intense exfoliation.

When will each scent be available in all product lines?
We are constantly working to improve our products and we accept all customer suggestions gladly. When new products become available, you’ll be the first to know. Please make sure to sign up for our mailing list by entering you name and email into the Newsletter box on our Home Page.

How do I use the Bath Balls?
Each Bath Ball is sufficient for one bath. Fill your tub with warm water and toss your favorite Bath Ball into the water. Before your eyes, the minerals will begin to dissolve into the water, creating a smooth and refreshing bath that will ease muscle tension and moisturize your skin.

How do I use the Soap Flakes?
Our Soap Flakes have multiple uses. Fill a small organza bag with the flakes and place along with your linens and clothes for a fresh scent or simply use the flakes as hand or body soap.

How do the Aromas work?
Our Aromas contain highly concentrated fragrance that will disperse through your home with the aid of bamboo sticks. Each time you would like to refresh the fragrance, simply flip the bamboo sticks. Depending on your preference, for a lighter scent try our Champagne, Provence or Bordeaux Aromas. For a stronger scent, try the Heaven or Paradise Aromas. To ensure the longevity of your aroma, be sure to keep far from heat sources like your bathroom or direct sunlight. Each Aroma should last anywhere from 2 – 4 months depending on usage and placement.

Can I use any of the soaps on my face?
Yes. Our Olive Oil Honey Vanilla Wheat, Olive Oil Mud, and Glycerine Green Tea soaps are excellent for delicately exfoliating, moisturizing, and of course cleansing the skin. As well, our Olive Oil Lavender soap will help to clear blemished or acne prone skin.

How long will soaps last?
Depending upon use, a single bar of soap may last for up to 20 washes. Due to the handmade quality and natural ingredients of our soaps, the ability for them to dissolve is much easier. Take care to keep your soap dry between use, to ensure the longevity of your soap.

Will the Mud Mask help with Rosacea?
Rosacea results primarily from excessive amounts of acid in the body. To reduce the effects of Rosacea one should try to balance or neutralize the excessive acids with alkaline. The Mud Mask contains alkaline occurring naturally in the mud from the Dead Sea. The Mud Mask is effective in replenishing the skin with vital minerals, drawing out impurities thus providing a stronger defense system against airborne toxins, and balancing the skin by combating the acids in the body with alkaline. Our Mud Mask will aid those with Rosacea, however it should not be treated as a cure.

What is beneficial about the Dead Sea?
The Dead Sea is known for its unique mineral wealth which can ease and heal numerous ailments such as respiratory and skin related diseases. Additionally it has been proven to help rheumatism, relax the muscles, and deliver essential minerals to the skin that improve moisture and elasticity.

Is the Dead Sea really drying up, and what is done to prevent it?
The mining of salts and minerals is not what’s causing the depletion of the Dead Sea, rather it is the shortages of water we are experiencing across the world. Many factories use this water and this is what causes the depletion, there will always be salts and minerals in the Dead Sea. Sabon donates to an organization that is active in the preservation of the Dead Sea. For more information about Sabon’s affiliations please visit our Friends page or log on to www.foe.org (Friends of the Earth) directly to see how you may contribute as well.

Why are your products packaged in glass?
Any product that is packaged in glass is likely to be better preserved in its original form than any other kind of packaging. Products placed in plastic containers will over time take on the toxicity of the plastic. e.g. Most people prefer the taste of Coke in a glass bottle rather than a plastic one. Also, glass is made of less processed ingredients than plastic, making it easier to be recycled. Sabon is going green day by day so we try to use as many products as possible that can be recycled.

What is included in “Complimentary Gift Wrapping”?
We are happy to wrap any item, whether it’s a gift for yourself or another. All wrapping will be customized and complimentary to your purchase. Each Sabon employee is trained in the art of wrapping and will create beautiful arrangements, adding delicate details using custom tissue papers, satin ribbons, and specialty stickers.

Can empty bottles and jars be refilled at a Sabon store?
Once a product is finished we are unable to refill it. You may choose to recycle the glass bottle/jar or use it at home in a unique way. Here at Sabon, we recycle all of our empty glass bottles with the NYC Sanitation Department. Some Sabon employees have used glass bottles as vases and jars to hold spices and small trinkets. Please see our new publication “Sabon My Way” on the Home Page, for unique tips on using your Sabon product in a new way.

Are your products FDA approved?
Yes, our products are FDA approved. Although cosmetic products do not need to be FDA approved for selling, and there is no such approval or seal provided by the FDA to any retailer certifying FDA approval, our products are imported, therefore we do need to be FDA approved for importing purposes only, and for that we are.

How can I get information about the safety of your products?
We strive to create products that are not harmful to humans. Our products go through rigorous inspections that determine safety and usability. For more information on cosmetic safety, please visit the FDA's website.

How long do your candles last?

Small Square & Round - appx. 22 hours

Do all of Sabon’s products contain ingredients from the Dead Sea?
No. Not all of Sabon products contain ingredients from the Dead Sea. All products, are however, produced in Israel.

What are parabens and which Sabon products are paraben-free?
Parabens are a group of chemicals widely used as a preservative in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. They safely fight off bacteria and fungi and can be found in many cosmetics and products we use daily (like toothpaste, shampoo, and lotions). Their history of safe use explains why parabens are so commonplace. Current studies have investigated possible side-effects of products containing parabens, so to keep you informed, here is a list of the products which are paraben free:

All Candle Products
All Aromas Aromatic Oils
Vanilla Mask & Mud Mask
Mother & Baby Body Oil
All Sugar Scrubs
All Sorbet Body Gel & All Massage Oils
All Room Sprays & All Body Oils
All Shower Gels & All Fresheners
All Foamy Scrubs & All Bath Salts
All Body Scrubs & All Mineral Powders
All Bath Balls & Foot Lotion

Why are synthetic chemicals used in your products?
Many ingredients are used in preservation of the contents, without these chemical preservatives, the products would not last more than several days. The only instance when a synthetic material is acceptable is when there is no viable natural alternative and it has absolutely no negative effects — on you or the environment. The term "fragrance" on our labels may indicate the use of natural fragrance (essential oils), synthetic fragrance or a combination of both. Sabon makes every attempt to use blends of natural oils in formulating our fragrances. However, on certain occasions, it may be necessary to use synthetic ingredients in our fragrances in order to sufficiently mix the fragrance with the product formula base and to keep the product stable.

Which products are hypo-allergenic?
Our Mother & Baby product line as well as our Aloe Vera face line are all hypo-allergenic.

What are your candles made from?
Our candles are made from a combination of paraffin and beeswax.

Which products are not Vegan friendly?
A short list of our products may be avoidable by Vegan’s. Below is a list of products that contain animal or human byproducts:
